My hens actually started preferring this bedding over straw, which says a lot. The 100% organic hemp really does soak up moisture fast, and I've gone almost two weeks between cleanouts without any ammonia smell in the coop.
I was worried about dust kicking up when the girls scratch around, but this hemp hurd stays put and they seem to love digging through it. It absorbs the morning wet spots way better than the pine shavings I used before, and a bale lasts me a good two weeks.
The coop smells noticeably fresher three days after I added this hemp bedding, and the hens seem to scratch through it happily. It’s a bit pricier than straw, but not having to swap it out as often makes the organic hemp worth it for me.
